The township has a total area of 36.4 square miles, with easy accessibility to M-24 and M-90 for an easy commute from the small township. The city of Lapeer is located nine miles south, and the village of North Branch is five miles to the east. Residents of Deerfield are part of the Lapeer Community Schools. Serving preschool through 12th grade, the district has 4,942 students with a student-teacher ratio of 22 to 1.

At the end of August, visitors and residents alike come out to enjoy Lapeer Days, Michigan’s largest free festival. In 1902, Alonzo A. Bostick and his son celebrated the grand opening of their stove works shop in Lapeer. This grand opening inspired a community festival that has been a beloved annual event for the people of Lapeer County and the surrounding areas.
